Laying the foundations of the European Education Area

Eurochild took part in the first European Educational Summit (#EduSummitEU) in Brussels on 25 January and was involved in preparing a workshop with our colleagues from CATS.

The summit hosted by the European Commission‘s Education and Training department had the theme ‘Laying the foundations of the European Education Area: for an innovative, inclusive and values-based education.’

The various sessions were framed by the call for a European Education Area 2025, discussions about basic skills and inclusive education. Speakers included EU education ministers, education practitioners, stakeholders, business leaders and people from different areas of civil society.

Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport announced that a proposal on early childhood education and care will follow in May.

At the workshop led by CATS the method of a Human Library was used to discover transversal skills and discuss child participation and inter-generational partnerships. The workshop was very well received by participants, who welcomed the interesting method used, the diverse and great stories told and the power child participation and child empowerment can have. Among the books, there were three young members from CATS youth group, MEOW
