Eurochild position on the EESC opinion on the Communication on the Rights of the Child
Eurochild commented on the working document prepared by the European Economic & Social Committee on the recent Commission Communication on the rights of the child.
In general Eurochild is supportive of the position the EESC takes with regards to this Communication. However, Eurochild considers that the following points could be elaborated within the Opinion:
- The need to distinguish between promoting child rights within internal and external policies.
- Mainstreaming could be further developed in EESC’s response.
- With respect to the issue of comparable data on children’s rights, there is no reference to on-going work within the Open Method of Coordination on developing common indicators.
- The Communication makes no mention of the links with youth policy. For Eurochild this is a missed opportunity.
