European Semester Alliance report on Latvia

The Report focuses on the following key themes: health, poverty and inequality and housing and homelessness.

The Semester Alliance, of which Eurochild is a part of, is a group of civil society and trade union organisations advocating for a more democratic, social and sustainable European Semester

This year the Alliance is producing a small number of reports on specific countries to highlight some of the issues that it believes need to be addressed in the Semester. The Focus on Latvia is the first of these reports.

The main issues underlined in the report are: poor health provision, homelessness and poor quality housing. According to a housing index by FEANTSA and Fondation Abbé Pierre, Latvia is the 24th State out of 28 Member States.

Latvia has lower levels of life expectancy compared to the EU average, low public spending on health and it lacks healthcare workers.
