Report from the 9th European Forum on the rights of the child
The Forum was preceded by the publication of a background paper proposing 10 principles on what child protection systems should achieve.
The first day was dedicated to high-level speeches, while the second day focused on more specialised discussions on different stages of integrated child protection systems, relating to prevention, identification, reporting and referral, investigation, treatment, follow-up and judicial involvement, and effective procedures.
Eurochild President Mária Herczog co-chaired the session on the prevention of violence against children, which showed that poverty is the main cross-cutting issue when talking about violence. The importance of parenting skills and positive parenting, integrated governance structures and the need for a new EU Agenda for the rights of the child were also raised.
