Children's voices on online safety: what do we need to learn?
Webinar by ECPAT, Eurochild and Down To Zero Alliance.
Online, 20 June 2023, 2pm CEST
This workshop will present an overview of the existing research on children’s views on online safety. In this digital era, where children start using the internet younger each day, digital policy must account for the specific needs and vulnerabilities of children. As the EU is moving towards a more regulated digital space, it is a crucial opportunity to bring in children’s voices to the debate.
Data and experiences of child sexual abuse and exploitation often portray very well the problem and the consequences of unsafe online spaces for children, but do not necessarily point at solutions that might work for children. There is a fundamental need for more research on children’s views on what policy makers and tech companies should do to ensure their safety online.
