European Commission Recommendation to develop and strengthen integrated child protection systems
Eurochild network welcomes the European Commission Recommendation to develop and strengthen integrated child protection systems, and looks forward to supporting its implementation and monitoring.
Eurochild strongly supports the adoption of the Commission Recommendation on developing and strengthening integrated child protection systems in the best interests of the child, and is pleased to see our suggestions integrated into the text. The Recommendation rightly places children at the centre of protection systems, emphasising their rights and best interests in all decision-making processes.
Key aspects include meaningful child participation, tackling discrimination, and addressing the needs of marginalised groups, including by making full use of the European Child Guarantee. We commend the call for safe offline and online spaces for children and comprehensive support for physical and mental health. The focus on coordination and resource allocation and data collection, and the transition from institutional to family and community-based care is also crucial.
Eurochild also welcomes the working staff document, a comprehensive document offering an overview of the state of the art of the child protection systems within the EU, which extensively recognises Eurochild’s contribution in the consultation process to develop the Recommendation.
We look forward to working together with our members and the EU institutions to support the implementation of the Recommendation.
