So This is Sexual Abuse: A Child Friendly Booklet
Eurochild members Hintalovon have produced a child-friendly booklet on identifying and acting on sexual abuse.
On behalf of the Council of Europe, a booklet on sexual abuse and exploitation has been produced for teenagers entitled 'So this is Sexual Abuse?'.
The child-friendly version of the Lanzarote Convention was prepared by the Hintalovon Child Rights Foundation with child participation. It provides insight into the stories of several young people. Their conversations reveal what constitutes abuse, what happens when someone commits a crime, and what can be done in the event of abuse. The scenes give children an idea of who to turn to for help and confirm that they can talk about sexuality and their feelings.
The main message of the publication is that children are not alone when they have questions. Whether they are concerned about certain behaviours, have questions about their right to say no or what to do when sexually explicit pictures or images are shared online, the aim of the booklet is to provide some useful advice and information to children and adults in order to access support to deal with these questions. The booklet provides insight into the stories of several young people and raises awareness about the substantive and procedural provisions of the Lanzarote Convention in an accessible way.
The booklet is available in English and Hungarian, and other language versions will follow shortly.
The booklet, as well as a background paper on the child participation used whilst developing the booklet, can be found here.
