An EU Anti-Poverty Strategy grounded in human rights

Eurochild informs the UN Human Rights Office, sharing evidence and experiences from our members working with children to ensure that their voices and lived realities shape the forthcoming EU Anti-Poverty Strategy and its human rights approach.

On 6 October, Eurochild participated in an expert roundtable on “An EU Anti-Poverty Strategy grounded in human rights”, organised by the UN Human Rights Regional Office for Europe (OHCHR). We are very pleased to have contributed to the OHCHR contribution to the anti-poverty strategy and to have provided our own submission to the consultation.

Our input is grounded in evidence from Eurochild members working directly with children, ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of children are reflected in the policy process, and to make sure that children are not left behind in the development of the EU’s Anti-Poverty Strategy.

The meeting was attended and participated by Christina Meinecke, UN Human Rights Regional Representative for Europe; Olivier Bontout, Deputy Head of Unit for Social Policies, Child Guarantee and Social Protection Committee at the European Commission; Olivier De Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights; Pamela Dale, UNICEF Regional Adviser on Social Protection; Benoit Van Keirsbilck, Member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child; as well as other civil society organisations, including EAPN.

Eurochild is acknowledged, and our key messages are reflected throughout the UN contribution. We look forward to seeing those insights reflected in the strategy to be published in 2026.
