How can we protect vulnerable families?
Eurochild organised a webinar to share good practices on strengthening families and preventing separation
Children’s rights are best met in the family environment, therefore family strenghtening is an essential aspect of deinstitutionalisation because it promotes a sustainable reintegration of children in their families.
Unfortunately, the financial and housing insecurity due to Covid-19 has led to an increase in the number of children in alternative care by as much as 30% in some European countries.
To address the topic, the Eurochild Working Group for Children in Alternative Care organised a webinar to share good practices on family strenghtening and to discuss ways to raise awareness and break the stigma around the topic of family separation. Eurochild member Hope & Homes for Children Bulgaria presented their holistic approach to support families in their own communities, while SOS Children Villages Latvia described how they help reconciliation between teenagers and families struggling with mental health problems.
Findings from the webinar were used to compile a resource pack on family strenghtening.
