Child Trafficking in Bosnia and Herzegovina Highlights the Ongoing Crisis

Eurochild member Novi Put responds to the discovery of 31 children, including infants, identified as trafficking victims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with most being girls aged 0-12. Blog by Abida Pehlić, President of Novi Put.

The recent case of child trafficking in Brčko serves as a stark reminder of the serious issue of human trafficking that, regrettably, continues to persist within our society. This appalling crime not only endangers the lives of the youngest and most vulnerable but also has a profound impact on the very fabric of our social structure.

The Responsibility to Recognise and Prevent Human Trafficking

Novi Put firmly believes that every individual has to recognise the early signs of human trafficking and actively engage in efforts to prevent such grave violations of human rights. Education and awareness are crucial first steps in developing a society that is resilient to this form of criminal activity. Every member of a community, from parents and teachers to public sector employees, has the potential to play a significant role in combatting human trafficking.

Public Engagement is Essential

No one is immune to the dangers of human trafficking, making the involvement of the wider community essential in preventing this crime. Raising awareness, reporting suspicious activities, and supporting victims are all vital measures that can contribute significantly to reducing the prevalence of this global issue, which is becoming increasingly evident in local communities. Society as a whole must take responsibility, remaining vigilant and proactive while extending support to those in need.

Novi Put: Committed to Combatting Human Trafficking for 15 Years

For the past 15 years, Novi Put has been dedicated to preventing all forms of human trafficking and providing assistance to victims. Society must unite in the fight against human trafficking. Everyone can contribute to fostering a safer environment for their communities. Novi Put invites all members of society to join in its efforts to prevent trafficking and protect victims. Only through collective action and shared responsibility can genuine and lasting change be achieved.

If you suspect any instance of human trafficking, please report it immediately to the relevant authorities or contact Novi Put’s support and counselling centre for assistance.
