CSOs Submit Complementary Information on the Implementation of Finland’s NAP for the European Child Guarantee
Civil Society Organisations Submit Complementary Information on the Implementation of Finland’s National Action Plan for the European Child Guarantee. It is the organisations’ view that the report by the Finnish Government does not provide a complete picture of the political decisions taken, or their impact and scale.
In March 2024, Finland submitted a report to the European Commission on the implementation of its National Action Plan for the European Child Guarantee. However, civil society organisations were not given the opportunity to contribute to the preparation of this report. In response, six Finnish organisations supporting children and families have now come together to provide additional insights, highlighting key concerns regarding social exclusion and child poverty.
Led by Eurochild member, the Central Union for Child Welfare, the submission was prepared together with Barnavårdsföreningen, Family Federation of Finland, Federation of Mother and Child Homes and Shelters, Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and Save the Children Finland.
In their report, organisations specifically address two critical issues:
- Cuts to social security implemented by the Government, which disproportionately impact children and families with children.
- Weakened services that are essential for preventing social exclusion and addressing child poverty.
In their submission, the organisations stress that the fight against poverty must remain a political priority and call for a more inclusive and effective approach to combating child poverty and promoting the welfare of children and families in Finland.
