Joint Statement: Child rights mainstreaming in the United Nations

On 14 March Eurochild co-sponsored a joint statement on child rights mainstreaming in the United Nations at the UN Human Rights Council Annual Day on the Rights of the Child. The statement was delivered by Terre des Hommes International Federation and supported by 17 organisations.

The statement is a reaction to the Guidance Note of the Secretary General on Child Rights Mainstreaming. This is a critical document which recognizes that, to fully deliver on their mandate, the entire UN system and its entities have to systematically integrate children’s rights into all aspects of their work. The statement calls on the UN and its member states to now implement child rights mainstreaming within their systems and policies, with children’s meaningful, safe and inclusive participation. It also calls to increase financial support for OHCHR (Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights, including the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child), to effectively fulfill its mandate on child rights mainstreaming.
