Improving data collection for children
Recommendations from Eurochild.
Given Eurochild’s extensive experience working with members, allies, and children on the ground, we recognise that disaggregated data is a fundamental component of effective policymaking. Research consistently demonstrates that without accurate and comparable data, the most marginalised children risk being overlooked, exacerbating existing inequalities. Reliable data enables policymakers to identify disparities, track progress, and ensure accountability in decision-making processes. Evidence-based, data-driven policymaking is essential for strengthening child protection systems and upholding children’s rights across Europe.
In this paper, we offer suggestions on key data areas to prioritise and improve at the EU level, along with relevant sources that inform our recommendations.
