Eurochild Children’s Council meet the European Parliament in Brussels

The Eurochild Children’s Council met in Brussels to support the network and to make sure that children’s voices are heard in decisions made at EU level.

Last month, we had the pleasure to welcome the Eurochild Children’s Council (ECC) in Brussels. The current ECC started their mandate in May 2022 and will be doing so until May 2024. During their visit, they had the opportunity to meet up again with the Secretariat, find out more about how the European Union works and explore how the elections process in their countries compares to the European ones.

Building on this, they started putting together their own campaign strategy for the upcoming European Parliament elections in 2024 that could bring about positive change in their home countries and in Europe on those issues children care most about.

As part of their Brussels trip, Eurochild Children's Council members also had the opportunity to meet and exchange with President Roberta Metsola and different Members of the European Parliament. While gaining insights about the work of the Parliament, they discussed the importance for policymakers to listen to children's voices and address challenges affecting them at European and Member States levels.

Overall, the children felt these meetings were meaningful and valuable opportunities to exchange with decision-makers, learn about life inside the European Parliament and share their priorities directly with people in positions of political power.

Finally, yet importantly, our wonderful ECC had the opportunity to explore the city of Brussels in a fun and quite unusual way: an escape game! From Grand Place to Mont des Arts, passing by Manneken Pis, the children worked together to collect clues and solve the game.
