Blog: How does the Voices of Children Foundation solve the key problems of children of war?

Ukrainian charitable foundation the Voices of Children works to provide comprehensive personalised assistance to families with children in Ukraine. Providing psychosocial support, necessities, and advocating for children's rights.
Everything for a full-fledged childhood. The Voices of Children was created in 2015 for children who suffered from Russian aggression in the east of Ukraine. Since the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Voices has expanded its activities. Today, we provide urgent humanitarian, psychological and rehabilitation assistance to thousands of families with children in Ukraine.
Another important issue is partnership with international human rights organisations. We are proud that Voices received early membership in the leading organisation for protection of children's rights, Eurochild. Together, we will create beneficial programs for children affected by war. No child should be left alone with the trauma of war! Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine completely. The Russian army kills and abducts civilians, destroys homes, infrastructure, and blocks humanitarian aid to the occupied territories. By 6 November, Ukrainian Police registered 42,000+ criminal proceedings related to the war crimes.
Voices of Children cannot ignore these tragedies. We provide comprehensive psychological, targeted humanitarian and other types of assistance to Ukrainian families with children. The main areas of the Foundation's work are to solve the key problems of children in war.
- Children’s rights advocacy: According to current data from the Children of War State portal, at least 430 Ukrainian children were killed and 827 injured. We record crimes of Russia, publish them monthly and speak at international conferences. We do our best to tell children’s war stories to the world. The movie "A House Made of Splinters", which tells the stories of Voice's orphanage wards, debuted in Ukraine. Our new video project "Chronicles of Children of War" tells the stories of displaced Ukrainian children.
- Psychosocial support: Working with psychologists about traumatic experiences helps children regain control over reactions. In 6 locations over Ukraine, children and parents receive psychosocial support (art therapy, fairy tale therapy, CBT-program "Children and War"). A psychological assistance hotline is provided. Mobile psychological assistance teams operate in the de-occupied territories. 3,500+ children and adults received psychological help in total.
- Humanitarian aid: We organise evacuation, help arrange housing, provide monetary and material assistance.
- Rehabilitation of children with disabilities: Professional care is essential to preserve their quality of life. Every month we organize 2-week rehabilitation in one of the best Ukrainian clinics.
