The fourth Eurochild Children’s Council starts its mandate!

Last week, Eurochild, in collaboration with the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society, hosted the Handover of the Eurochild Children’s Council. The event brought together the outgoing and incoming groups of children for an enriching three-day gathering in Malta.

The Eurochild Children’s Council is a selected group of children supported by Eurochild members from various countries across Europe. They play an advisory role in Eurochild’s key advocacy priorities, governance decisions, and events, serving a mandate of two years.

While in Malta, the outgoing and incoming council members had the opportunity to bond, exchange experiences, and celebrate the transition. The event aimed at providing a meaningful closure for some and an inspiring introduction for the others while having a lot of fun.

Over the course of the three days, the outgoing group participated in sessions that focused on capturing their feedback and evaluations of their 2 years mandate. These reflective sessions allowed them to share insights, highlight their achievements, and reinforce the strong connections they had built over the past two years.

Simultaneously, the incoming members began their journey by getting to know each other and learning about Eurochild’s mission and future projects. This introduction set the stage for their forthcoming contributions, helping them to understand their crucial role as representatives of children's voices.

One of the highlights of the handover was a collaborative session where the Eurochild Children's Councils worked together on creating a child-friendly version of the "VOICE" Project Report. While having fun in drawing and creating, they took on their roles of children’s representatives, ensuring that important information about online safety is accessible to all children.

Moreover, children engaged in a meaningful knowledge exchange. The outgoing group shared their insights and understanding on child participation with the newcomers. This exchange culminated in a jointly facilitated workshop on child participation during the Eurochild Members Convention held right after the handover.

Finally, both councils had a special moment on stage at the opening of the Eurochild Member’s Convention, were they made the handover official and celebrated with a warm round of applause from Eurochild staff and members.
