Speaking up for change: Children's and caregivers' voices for safer online experiences - Accessible Report
Eurochild, ECPAT International, and Terre des Hommes Netherlands, on behalf of the Down to Zero Alliance, are excited to launch the VOICE Project Accessible Report, developed by the current and previous Eurochild Children's Council.
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring the safety and well-being of children online is paramount. This can only be achieved by ensuring that policies and technological solutions are based on a profound understanding of children’s perspectives and needs. The VOICE Project was designed to listen to, understand, and amplify the views of children and caregivers in the debate around safety standards and policies in digital environments. This was done through meaningful child focus group discussions and the co-creation of advocacy messages with children from 15 countries in Europe, Asia, and South America. You can read the full research here.
To ensure children’s voices remain central in discussions on digital safety, an accessible version of the original VOICE Research has been developed by the current and previous Eurochild Children's Council with the following three key objectives:
- Making the findings accessible: Ensuring the insights, recommendations, and actions from the VOICE Research are clear and easily understood by both children and adults, especially those whose first language is not English.
- Amplifying children’s perspectives: Using creative storytelling to bring the VOICE Project’s messages to life in a way that resonates with young people.
- Empowering children: Emphasizing the importance of giving children agency over their own safety and development. This report provides them with a platform to speak directly to governments, online platforms, caregivers, and their peers, allowing them to advocate for safer online environments.
